What We Believe
At South Church, everything we do is built on the truth of God’s Word. We believe the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God — our final authority for life, faith, and truth.

The Gospel

The gospel is the good news that God’s grace overcomes the brokenness of our world. It tells the true story of humanity’s creation, fall, and redemption — made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The cross and the empty tomb are at the heart of this message. Jesus' resurrection is the power of the gospel, offering real hope, complete forgiveness, and eternal life to all who believe.

Salvation

Jesus Christ died in our place, fully satisfying the justice of a holy God and absorbing His righteous wrath. He alone is the way to salvation. Through repentance and faith in Christ, we are rescued from sin and given new life.

Salvation is a gift — not something we earn, but something we receive by grace through faith. Those who are truly saved are eternally secure in Christ.

Core Beliefs

God

We believe in one eternal God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

Jesus is the Son of God — fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, rose from the grave, and ascended into Heaven. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father and will one day return in glory.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit draws people to salvation and lives within every believer. He comforts, convicts, guides, and empowers us to live out our faith.

The Bible

The Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God. It is the ultimate authority for what we believe and how we live.

Humanity

Every person is made in the image of God, yet all have sinned and are separated from Him. We need rescue, and that rescue is only found in Jesus.

Eternity

Those who die apart from Christ will face eternal separation from God in Hell. Those who are in Christ will live forever with Him in Heaven.

Baptism

Baptism is a step of obedience after salvation, symbolizing our identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. We practice baptism by full immersion.

The Church

The church is a local body of baptized believers with Jesus Christ as the Head. We gather to worship, grow in faith, serve others, and share the gospel.

Prayer

Every follower of Jesus has direct access to God through prayer. We are called to live in constant dependence on Him.

The Lord’s Supper

We believe the Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience that followers of Jesus observe in remembrance of His sacrifice. It is not a means of salvation, but a time to reflect on the body and blood of Christ, given for us. We practice open communion, meaning any believer who has trusted in Christ for salvation is welcome to participate. The bread and the cup serve as reminders of His death until He returns.
